Poth

Poth benefits from the mix of small-town ease and cosmopolitan city access.

Welcome to Poth

A dynamic family town in the San Antonio metro area.

As part of the San Antonio metropolitan area, Poth benefits from the mix of small-town ease and cosmopolitan city access. Originally named Marcelina when it was established in 1886, Poth was renamed in 1901 for A. H. Poth, a local business owner.

The Poth community is close-knit and committed to the well-being of the entire town, as evidenced by a rather remarkable moment in history. In 1970, Poth made national news when nearly every one of its citizens agreed to be vaccinated when one of the town's children contracted polio. These kinds of strong ties have helped make Poth into the coveted family community it is today.

With an impressive lineup of available homes, Poth offers a Texas-sized bang for your buck. Classic ranch styles, sprawling yards bright with green grass, and gourmet kitchens all come at incredible prices, making Poth an ideal spot for families to set down roots. Add the excellent school system to the mix, and it’s a wonder the whole nation isn’t flocking to this picturesque slice of paradise.

Local Lifestyle

Slow-paced and family-oriented, Poth offers the best of country living. Residents support local businesses, and neighbors are always ready to lend a hand. Schools in Poth are known for their attentive teachers and small classes, which isn’t surprising considering the general atmosphere of generosity and compassion in this nurturing town. The tight-knit community is friendly and warm, so go ahead and ask your neighbor for that cup of sugar - they'll probably throw in a whole bag and an invitation to Sunday dinner.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Step back in time at Marisol’s Mexican Restaurant, where a great meal comes with friendly service and an unbelievably low bill. Take a tip from the locals and order the carne guisada. The unassuming Circle G Restaurant may not have fancy decor, but the tacos are so good, you won’t even notice. Known for friendly service and an old-school vibe, this classic Mexican restaurant is a favorite among residents.

Head to nearby Floresville for more dining options, like Buffalo Bear's, a burger place that encourages you to eat your heart out. They deliver quite the challenge, with monster eats like the Samich Jalapeño Popper BearGurr burger and the massive, mac and cheese-filled MacBearGurr.

Things to Do

Always ready to help those in need, Poth makes a point of engaging the community in fundraisers and charitable work. The annual Ride To Remember has been going strong for over 12 years and benefits the City of Poth and the Alzheimer’s Association. This bike ride and 5K walk/run donate one-half of the proceeds to fight Alzheimer’s and the other half to support the Poth City Park, which hosts various beloved town events, like the popular Movies at the Park series.

San Antonio, just a short drive away, offers a dizzying variety of family-friendly activities, like the DoSeum, an interactive museum promoting learning and discovery through exhibits and creative programs. Take the kids for a wild time at the Bracken Cave Preserve, a bat sanctuary that is home to the world’s largest bat colony.

Schools

Poth residents benefit from the excellent Poth Independent School District, which is known for small classes and caring teachers. Top-rated schools in the district include:
