Stockdale

Known for its family-friendly lifestyle and quaint, serene atmosphere, but make no mistake.

Welcome to Stockdale

The best of small-town living in a family-oriented community.

A town of many names, Stockdale was once known as High Prairie, Free Timber, and even Bunker's Store, until finally being named after Fletcher Stockdale, the lieutenant governor of Texas, in 1863. Nearby San Antonio is a short drive away, allowing Stockdale residents to thrive in a small-town base with easy access to a sprawling metropolis.

Stockdale may be known for its family-friendly lifestyle and quaint, serene atmosphere, but make no mistake - the houses here have all the amenities and sophistication of a big city neighborhood. With grassy lawns, oak-studded acreage, and stunning pasture views, it’s not uncommon to find properties with up to 80 acres of ranchland. Take your pick of modest ranch-style homes or spacious new builds with spectacular architectural design, or go custom with your very own dream house.

The yearly calendar of events is impressive, as is the resident participation in running such festivities as the Glamour and Glitz Gala, which benefits the Stockdale school system.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Dining in Stockdale is a family affair, with most restaurants and catering services owned and operated by parents and their kids or a team of siblings, and home-style cooking has never tasted so good! K4 Goods is a local favorite and offers creative and delicious dishes like Buckaroo Mac n’ Cheese, Jalapeño Popper Dip, the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies Ever, and Boujee Banana Pudding.

The family-owned Lucille's Country Kitchen offers southern classics like chicken and dumplings and Hatch green chili stew, while Emmy's Mexican Restaurant is the home of local favorites like tortilla soup and mini tacos. Get a taste of authentic Italian cuisine at Lit'l Italy, which offers the freshest Caprese salad and incredible pasta dishes.

On hot summer days, you can’t beat a classic soft-serve ice cream or milkshake, and Dairy Queen is just the place to deliver. A picture of Americana, this national favorite also offers burgers and fries and pretty much makes everyone’s day.

Things to Do

Offering small-town life at its best, Stockdale provides residents with good old-fashioned fun, unmatched by its big-city counterparts. Stockdale is home to the cheery Watermelon Jubilee, one of the oldest watermelon festivals in Texas. Dating back to 1937, this lively celebration includes the crowning of the Jubilee Court and the Rodeo Queen, live music, a parade, and a watermelon eating contest.

Stockdale’s City Park is the crown jewel of the town’s green spaces. Acting as the city center, the park is a frequent venue for Stockdale’s monthly celebrations, as well as a serene spot for residents to relax. Lush landscaping and pretty flowers make this a cheery, bright place for the Stockdale community to take a break from schedules, workdays, and homework.

Schools

Stockdale residents benefit from the excellent Stockdale Independent School District, which has been highly rated by the state of Texas for educational excellence.
