Known for being the home of the Alamo, The San Antonio Botanical Garden, and the Spurs, San Antonio is a bustling city with plenty of activities, beautiful architecture, and thriving businesses. It’s also the home of some fantastic Texas barbeque and other cuisines. If you own a home in the area or you plan to visit to look at San Antonio luxury homes or just for a vacation, you need to put the following restaurants on your list to try.
San Antonio restaurants you need to try
Battalion
Located in a renovated Southtown firehouse, Battalion is full of Italian classics and Italian American dishes that are served in a trendy and energetic atmosphere. Battalion is a favorite of those who own San Antonio luxury homes and want to get their meatball fix as their three-cheese beef and pork meatballs are known throughout the city. Other must-try dishes include spinach dumplings, parmesan-crusted lamb chops, and NY Strip alla Florentine. To round out your meal, choose a glass or bottle of wine from the restaurant’s large list or indulge in a craft cocktail. Two recommendations are The Arsonist (tequila, Campari, and pomegranate liqueur) and The Tillerman (Maker’s Mark bourbon, Cocchi Americano, and orange bitters).
Silo Terrace Oyster Bar
There’s almost never a bad time for those who own San Antonio real estate to relax on the rooftop with a drink and a great meal, and Silo Terrace Oyster Bar has one of the best rooftops in town. Featuring some of the freshest oysters from the East Coast, Silo Terrace features a casual-yet-elegant dining atmosphere that is perfect for a relaxing date night or a satisfying lunch. If you do stop in over the noon hour, you can enjoy a chilled seafood platter, signature fried oysters, or fried green tomato salad with lump crab remoulade. Making this your dinner destination? Get your oyster fix with an order of the Grilled Oysters Rockefeller, or try some prime ribeye or a sumptuous lobster ravioli.
The Jerk Shack
The name may not make it sound like much, but The Jerk Shack is consistently rated as the best Caribbean restaurant in the entire state. Named as one of the Top 16 New Restaurants in America by Eater when it debuted in 2018, The Jerk Shack is the place to go for dishes like curry shrimp, jerk fried chicken wings, braised oxtails, and ackee n saltfish spring rolls. The Jerk Shack is a casual eatery, so it’s perfect for a quick, delicious lunch or dinner.
Frida
If you’re in town to look at San Antonio luxury homes for sale, you can experience modern Mexican cuisine at its finest when you dine at Frida. Combining the seemingly incongruous Mexican flavors and French culinary cooking style, Frida is as unique as it is mouth-watering. If you make a dinner reservation, you can expect to dine on ahi tuna ceviche, black roasted young chicken, and duck flautas. If brunch is more your style, you can come to Frida on Sundays from 11 am to 3 pm for French toast, Huevos Benito y Tino (jalapeno cheese biscuit, carnitas, poached eggs, morita hollandaise, and black beans), or sucking pig belly. Happy hour at Frida is also highly recommended and occurs from 4-6 pm every day, with reverse happy hour from 9-11 pm. Enjoy happy hour eats like chili honey wings or mini tacos and specials on wine, beer, and cocktails.
Clementine
In the mood for upscale southern food served in an elegant atmosphere? Then you need to put Clementine on your list. You can put together a luxurious meal of country-fried quail, red lentil chaat, Texas beef, or Long Island skate complemented by a dessert of cardamom donuts or French truffle brie. However, it’s highly recommended that you forego the menu altogether and choose the “Feed Me” option, where you let the chef put together a menu especially for each guest that highlights seasonal ingredients. You can also rely on the Clementine team to help you select the perfect wine or beer to complement your meal.
Rebelle
Touted as the best seafood restaurant in the city, Rebelle is a favorite of both owners of San Antonio luxury homes and visitors alike. Located in The St. Anthony Hotel, Rebelle has a wonderfully trained and attentive staff who will help you select the perfect dishes as well as give you any background information you need on the menu or the restaurant itself. Some dinner favorites include seafood towers, baked lobster and cavatappi pasta, and a half-rack of roasted lamb. You can also visit Rebelle for a happy hour small plate of fried calamari or herb falafel and a $7 cocktail on weekdays from 5-6:30 pm or for a brunch of king crab omelets, griddle pancakes, and mimosas or bloody marys.
Meadow
Referred to as “seasonal Texas southern,” the food at Meadow is a blend of classics like fried chicken biscuits and burgers and innovative contemporary selections like Florida red grouper served with acorn squash and red Russian kale, and seared sea scallops with stone-ground grits. Meadow is open for lunch on Thursdays and Fridays, dinner on Tuesdays through Saturdays, and brunch from 10 am to 2 pm on the weekends. If you do make it in for brunch, make sure to try out the banana pecan bread with honey butter and State Street Biscuit (fried chicken, sausage gravy, American cheese, and an egg sunny side up).
